Eppendorf Tubes are the benchmark for simple and safe sample preparation from 0.5 to 2.0 mL. For larger volumes, 15 mL and 50 mL conical tubes are commonly used. To pipette samples from the 15 mL conical tubes requires the pipette shaft to reach into the vessel. This is a major contamination concern for all application where sterility or absence of contaminants is important, e.g., cell culture passaging, PCR master mixes or RNA purification.
